Random video chat means being put in a call with somebody you have never met. It is genuinely one of the few ways left to meet a person outside your own circles, and it has a bad reputation for reasons that are entirely earned. This page is about what to look for, and what we do differently.
What to look for in one
Three questions separate the ones worth using from the rest. Do you learn anything about the other person before your camera turns on? Does anything follow them between conversations, so that behaviour has a cost? And can you say what you want to talk about, or is it pure chance?
Most sites answer no to all three, which is why they feel the same however different the branding is.
Meeting somebody here
You pick a subject or a channel and search. When somebody compatible is there, you both see a profile, a rating from previous conversations, and the languages you have in common. Either of you can message first. Video opens when you both agree.
Afterwards you rate each other, and if it went well you can add them and talk again. That last part is what most random chat is missing entirely: it is built so that meeting somebody good is not the end of it.
Staying safe in one
The advice worth repeating anywhere, not only here: never send money to somebody you met in a random chat, however plausible the reason. Do not share identity documents, account details or codes. Assume anything on your camera behind you is visible. Leave the moment you want to, without explaining yourself.
On this site, every room has a leave button and a report button, reports reach a person rather than a queue nobody reads, and blocking is permanent and mutual. We never record video or audio.

There is no paid tier and no advertising. You need an account, which is the thing ratings and blocks attach to — a network where a bad conversation costs nothing to walk away from and start again is a network with no memory, and memory is the entire mechanism.

Is random video chat safe?
It depends almost entirely on whether the site lets you decide before the camera opens, and whether anything follows a person between conversations. Here you see a profile and a rating first, video needs both people to agree, and reports are reviewed by a human.
Do I need to download anything?
No. It runs in the browser on a phone or a computer. You need a camera and a microphone, and to allow the browser to use them.
Do I need an account?
Yes, and it is free. Accounts exist so ratings, blocks and reports attach to somebody rather than evaporating on reload.
Can I talk about something specific?
That is the starting point rather than an afterthought. Pick a subject or a channel — a language you are learning, signing, code, music, philosophy — and matching begins from it.
What if nobody is online?
The search widens on its own, and if it stays quiet you can schedule a conversation as little as ten minutes ahead and share the link. There is also an open room every six hours.
